Ki To Life
Reiki

Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan and is usually a hands off system using the theory that all things are connected to a universal life force which flows through our bodies. The energy is allowed to flow through different points in our bodies called chakras. If the chakras are open and allow the energy to flow freely through our bodies then we experience health & well being, but stress illnesses and other daily influences can cause blockages in our chakras and we then become unwell and our bodies find it difficult to recover completely.

A Reiki Treatment

The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing, as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions, which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1½ hours with each position held for several minutes.

Reiki can be used alongside conventional medicines but medical advice from your GP is always recommended. Reiki treatments can assist with the healing of anything from minor injuries and stress to cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Fibromyalgia.

Reiki in Pregnancy

Reiki is safe for pregnant women! In fact, Reiki works well in helping with all stages of pregnancy including conception and childbirth. Reiki provides emotional as well as physical support and works not only on the mother, but also on the child. Reiki cannot cause harm and always works to reduce stress and improve health regardless of the condition. Reiki during pregnancy not only offers treatment for the woman's body but also for the development of the foetus. Reiki is believed to be "loving" energy that is shared from the practitioner to the client. That means that a foetus can be receiving loving energy all the while the mother is being treated. There are some fairly common discomforts of pregnancy which can be minimized or even alleviated by Reiki treatments, such as backaches, headaches, stress & anxiety, nausea, etc. The deep relaxation and peacefulness many people experience during and after a Reiki treatment could be of benefit to pregnant women.

During labour, pain is associated with the back and pelvic area. Reiki used during this stage has been shown to control and lessen pain during labour. This type of therapy has also shown to make delivery easier on the mum and baby. Also, mothers who have had previous c-sections who receive Reiki in later pregnancies show a clear reduction in the need for caesarean surgeries.

As far as post-partum treatment, Reiki is shown to reduce the emotional rollercoaster of adjusting to a new baby. Hand positions and chakra concentrations are great for stress reduction and anxiety reduction. Mothers who have used Reiki during and after pregnancy can better adjust to their babies. Babies are also better adjusted to the outside world when the mother has had Reiki therapy during her pregnancy.

After the baby is born, it can be a stressful time for the baby. When Reiki is used in the delivery room it makes an easier transition for the baby. It also reduces anxiety, sleep problems, colic, and enhances motor activity and active sleep.
